About the Role

A Burnley-based primary school is seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEN Unit, supporting children across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a long-term position starting in May 2026 and offers the chance to work within an established and supportive team.


Key Responsibilities

* Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD
* Supporting learning, communication, and social development
* Assisting the class teacher with daily classroom activities
* Helping to deliver personalised interventions and learning plans
* Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour needs
* Working closely with the SENCO and wider SEN team
* Contributing to learning observations and progress notes
* Assisting with personal care if required


Requirements

* Experience supporting pupils with SEN (ASD experience desirable)
* Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Calm, patient, and resilient approach
* TA qualification or relevant school-based experience preferred
* Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
