Job Description
I’m currently looking for compassionate, reliable, and committed SEND Teaching Assistants to support a variety of primary schools across the Wakefield area. If you’re driven by a desire to help children overcome barriers, build confidence, and access learning in a way that works for them, this could be an incredibly rewarding next step in your career.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with pupils who require additional support due to special educational needs or disabilities. You’ll play a key role in helping children feel understood, valued, and capable - both inside and outside the classroom. Your work will be varied, meaningful, and absolutely vital to each child’s progress.
Your responsibilities may include:
* Providing tailored one-to-one or small-group support
* Supporting children with a range of needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social and emotional needs, and learning delays
* Helping pupils regulate emotions, develop social skills, and build confidence
* Implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
* Assisting teachers with adapting lessons and resources to suit individual needs
* Using strategies such as visual aids, sensory tools, and alternative communication methods
* Helping maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing environment
* Supporting children during transitions, playtimes, and daily routines
What I’m Looking For
I would love to speak with you if you:
* Have experience working with children with SEND (school-based experience is ideal but not essential)
* Are patient, empathetic, and consistent in your approach
* Can remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenges
* Understand (or are willing to learn about) different SEND needs and supportive strategies
* Communicate clearly and work well within a team
* Are passionate about helping every child feel included and capable
What You’ll Receive
When you work with me through Reed Education, you’ll benefit from:
* Competitive pay that reflects your experience and skill set
* Access to specialist training and development opportunities
* Ongoing support from an experienced and approachable team
* Flexible working options to suit your lifestyle
* Wellbeing support, including access to an Employee Assistance Programme
* The opportunity to make a genuine, life-changing difference to children across Wakefield
