Job Overview
We are looking for 6 student dental nurses to join our training programme. Candidates will work towards the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing (RQF). Upon successful completion, the qualification can be used towards UCAS points for further careers.
Successful applicants will receive full support from experienced Dental Nurse Tutors and nursing staff, including theoretical and practical teaching alongside clinical experience. The course runs for 18 months and will commence in October 2026.
Main Duties
* Assist dental staff to reassure and inform patients about further treatment and appointments.
* Address language and cultural issues sensitively and ensure patient comfort throughout clinical care.
* Prepare dental materials, instruments, and equipment for each clinic session and clean or sterilise items at the end of each session.
* Assist with patient treatment in accordance with all Trust policies.
* Provide assistance with patients receiving Relative Analgesia, Intravenous Sedation, or General Anaesthetic treatment, and deliver pre‑ and post‑operative care.
* Wash, sterilise, disinfect and store dental instruments and equipment in line with UHBW cross‑infection policies.
* Provide dental assistance/cover across a number of sites, including outreach community clinics.
* Promote a professional and responsible manner at all times, conforming to the Trust’s uniform policy and Core Values.
General Duties (under supervision)
* Work under the supervision of Senior Dental Nurses to ensure smooth operational running of the department.
* Undertake general cleaning of surfaces and equipment to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
* Safely handle hazardous and toxic waste material.
* Follow direction and additional duties as required by Senior Dental Nurses and Dental Nurse Tutor within the Scope of Practice of a Dental Nurse.
