A vacancy has arisen for a Flight Lieutenant, Warrant Officer, Master Aircrew or Flight Sergeant (Any profession) – however, preference will be given to Aircrew (Any), Air Ops (Systems) or Air Ops (Control) to serve as the Air Safety SEMSCo at RAF Cranwell on Full Time Reserve Service (Home Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of being not before 29 April 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible to the Head of Establishment (HoE) and Aerodrome Operator (AO) through OC Total Safety Centre (TSC) for the effective monitoring, operation and administration of the DH-facing Aviation Error Management System (AEMS) at RAF Cranwell. Working as part of a team of three within the TSC, they will work closely with Cranwell and Barkston Heath ATC and Stn Ops, as well as the Air Safety Teams (ASTs) of resident units, including 3FTS and EMUAS. They will be required to: Act as a focal point for information, guidance and promotion of RAF AEMS policy and procedure. Act as the lead Occurrence Manager for all DH-facing DASORs at RAF Cranwell and Barkston Heath – mainly ATC and Ops-focussed. Conduct and manage air safety investigations for DH-facing incidents, up to and including Occurrence Safety Investigation (OSI) level. Conduct and manage all DH-facing Occurrence Review Groups (ORG). Work closely with Cranwell and Barkston Heath ATC and Stn Ops staffs and safety leads. Advise and guide the HoE, AO, nominated deputies, ORG members and others on the application of the RAF Just Culture policy. Advise the AO and OC TSC on all DH-facing air safety incidents. Suggest, manage and track associated recommendations and preventative measures. Act as the Cranwell lead point of contact for ASIMS – and liaise closely with the DSA ASIMS team. Act as the stn focal point for all In-Form Reports to ensure all safety/non-safety information is identified and appropriate action instigated to provide effective and sustainable investigation/interventions. Provide support to Stn LEMSCos/safety reps in the publicity and promotion of RAF AEMS. Regularly visit units/sections to communicate good practice, give a visible presence and encourage participation in the RAF AEMS. Develop and monitor KPIs, information and statistics to assist in the overall monitoring of the AEMS. Liaise closely with the 3FTS and EMUAS AST and assist them in investigations. Liaise regularly with the RAF’s Air Safety Investigation Team (ASIT) and other SEMSCos. Attend all role-related air safety meetings. Conduct periodic trend analysis on critical incidents and hazard observations. Manage, coordinate, update and publish the quarterly Aerodrome Operators Hazard Logs (AOHLs) for RAF Cranwell and RAF Barkston Heath on behalf of the AO. Act as the stn’s main POC for all flypasts over Cranwell, managing and updating the flypast Op Order templates, and assisting project officers with drafting and reviewing their OpOs prior to forwarding for AO approval. Support the Cranwell SFSO and stand in for them in their absence.
