Summary:
The role involves providing technical front-line support to industrial process/clean water treatment operations across the UK, monitoring process performance day-to-day and over time, fault finding, providing site technical guidance with significant technical capabilities to understand and implement process changes to maintain performance.
The Technical Development Specialist will serve as NSI’s primary on-site technical presence for operations teams, requiring travel mainly within a set region and occasionally across the UK.
They will also lead/support water-related projects and business development throughout the UK, conducting site-specific feasibility studies, developing process improvement plans, and sharing best practices with regional O&M teams.
The role is supported by Site, Area, and Territory Managers, along with specialists from other company services. The ideal candidate is an experienced Water Treatment/Chemical/Process Engineer with both theoretical and practical knowledge to improve treatment efficiencies, investigate performance issues, and support operations on technical/process matters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Promote safety leadership across all activities.
* Uphold company policies, legislative requirements, and embody company values.
* Possess in-depth process knowledge for fault finding, risk assessment, and process change impacts.
* Make technical decisions based on site-specific process knowledge.
* Monitor process performance daily and provide technical guidance to ensure optimal activity and risk mitigation.
* Ensure compliance with site-specific parameters, KPIs, client requirements, and regulations.
* Provide front-line support to water treatment operations.
* Focus on operational costs and their relation to process operation.
* Determine when support from O&M teams is needed to prevent performance issues.
* Share and receive best practices with O&M teams for contract benefits.
* Analyze site risks and manage to minimize them within long-term service contracts.
* Participate in customer review meetings to report on plant performance and risks.
* Identify additional support or development opportunities for clients.
* Lead and develop water-related business opportunities, collaborating with the Business Development Team.
* Assist other business units in developing water treatment services.
* Review data from water assets to identify performance issues and solutions.
* Develop structured approaches to problem resolution, including risk assessment and planning.
* Coordinate pilot plant operations, data collection, and reporting.
* Represent NSI in design reviews for new assets and process modifications, managing associated risks.
* Contribute to discussions on alternative technologies to maximize plant performance.
* Lead by example, fostering an inclusive, team-oriented environment and collaborating with wider teams.
* Respond to emergencies from a technical perspective.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
* Degree and postgraduate qualification in relevant Engineering or water treatment discipline (or significant experience).
* Deep understanding of industrial water treatment technologies (membranes, ion exchange, EDI, etc.).
* Minimum 5 years of site-based water treatment experience.
* Understanding of business strategy development and execution.
* Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
* Critical thinking, leadership, influence skills.
* Full clean driving license.
* Desirable: HSQE, leadership, project management, site management, incident investigation, auditing qualifications.
Working for us means:
The salary ranges from £45,000 to £55,000 annually, based on experience.
Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday.
Benefits include company vehicle or allowance, 25 days holiday + statutory days, pension, private healthcare post-probation, income protection, and death in service cover.
Probation period: 6 months; Notice period: 1 week during probation, 1 month thereafter.
