Post Title - AAA Screening Technician
Pay Band - 4
Hours - 22.5 hours per week, primarily Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with some flexibility. Hours usually between 09:00 and 17:00, depending on location. Possible weekend and evening work if required for programme development.
Contract - Permanent
Location/Department - AAA Screening Programme, Worcester Royal Hospital, with travel across Herefordshire and Worcestershire
Accountable to - AAA Screening Programme Manager
Job Purpose - To undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning as part of the community AAA screening programme. The successful applicant will undertake a Level 3 Health Screeners Diploma, working independently and making judgements based on experience and training. Once qualified, the technician will reassure and inform men attending the screening and ensure scans meet national standards. They will relay results and support patients throughout the process.
Key Duties
* Communication: Care for patients, liaise with staff, handle anxious patients tactfully, obtain informed consent, explain procedures, and communicate screening outcomes.
* Knowledge, Training & Experience: Use anatomical knowledge to perform scans, apply training to optimize images, attend required training, and perform a minimum of 200 scans annually post-accreditation.
* Analysis & Judgement: Ensure scan quality, record data accurately, and report findings appropriately.
* Planning & Organisation: Organize and perform scans, ensure timely dispatch of results, and handle patient and medical enquiries.
* Policy & Service Development: Participate in service reviews, adhere to protocols, and maintain infection control standards.
* Financial Responsibilities: Use and maintain equipment, monitor supplies, and report faults.
* Human Resources & Information Resources: Supervise less experienced staff, use computer software for data management, and participate in research and audit activities.
* Freedom to Act & Physical/Mental Effort: Work within organizational policies, travel frequently, and maintain high concentration levels during scans.
Working Conditions - Travel within the catchment area, occasional exposure to challenging behaviour, and flexible practice adjustments as needed. Access to a car with business insurance is essential.
Other Duties - Transport equipment, set up and pack away at clinics, work independently at off-site locations, support the team, and attend meetings and training. Perform additional duties as required within scope and capabilities.
