Games Design Lecturer (Software Development)

Temporary – Full Time, Monday to Friday – Circa 24 hours per week – Ware – £28.58-£30.71 per hour.

About the Role

This role involves teaching 16-19-year-old learners across Level 2 and Level 3 Games Design and Software Development programmes within a Further Education environment.


Teaching and Learning

* Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons for Level 2 Games Design and T Level Digital Production programmes.
* Teach practical games software development skills using Unity and Unreal Engine.
* Support learners in developing core competencies such as game mechanics, programming concepts, prototyping, and testing.
* Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of diverse learners and support learner progression.
* Embed English, maths, digital skills, and employability skills within the curriculum.


Assessment and Progress

* Assess learner work in line with awarding body and college requirements.
* Track, monitor, and report on learner progress, attendance, and achievement.
* Provide timely, constructive feedback to support learner development.
* Prepare learners for internal and external assessments, projects, and synoptic work.


Curriculum and Quality

* Contribute to curriculum development to ensure programmes remain current and industry-relevant.
* Maintain accurate course documentation, schemes of work, and lesson plans.
* Participate in quality assurance processes, including standardisation and internal verification.
* Support continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment.


Learner Support and Pastoral Care

* Act as a personal tutor where required, supporting learners' academic and personal development.
* Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
* Contribute to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion responsibilities.


Industry and Professional Practice

* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of games design and software development practices.
* Support employer engagement activities, live briefs, and industry-informed projects (particularly for T Levels).
* Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching and subject knowledge.


Health, Safety, and Compliance

* Comply with college policies and procedures, including health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection.
* Ensure safe use of specialist equipment and software within teaching environments.


Other Duties

* Participate in team meetings, open events, and curriculum planning activities.
* Undertake additional duties consistent with the role as required by the college.

Qualifications


Essential

* Degree or relevant Level 6 qualification in Games Design, Games Development, Software Development, Computing, or a related subject.
* English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent).


Desirable

* Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET, or equivalent).
* Assessor/Internal Verifier qualifications (or willingness to work towards).


Teaching and FE Experience


Essential

* Experience teaching in a Further Education setting.
* Experience delivering Level 2 Games Design or similar creative digital programmes.
* Experience teaching or contributing to T Level Digital Production.
* Understanding of T Level structures, including core components, occupational specialism, and employer-set projects.


Desirable

* Experience delivering both Software Development and Digital Content pathways within T Levels.
* Experience of curriculum planning and scheme of work development in FE.
* Experience working with 16-19 learners.


Technical Knowledge and Skills


Essential

* Strong practical experience using Unity and Unreal Engine.
* Knowledge of software development principles relevant to games (e.g., programming logic, debugging, version control).
* Understanding of game mechanics, interactivity, and user experience.
* Ability to teach industry-standard development workflows.


Desirable

* Experience with programming languages such as C#, C++, or visual scripting (Blueprints).
* Experience with digital content tools (e.g., Blender, Maya, Adobe Creative Suite).
* Awareness of industry pipelines for games and interactive media.


Assessment and Quality


Essential

* Experience assessing learner work in line with awarding body requirements.
* Ability to track learner progress and maintain accurate assessment records.
* Understanding of quality assurance processes in FE.


Desirable

* Experience with standardisation and internal verification.
* Familiarity with employer-set projects and synoptic assessment (T Levels).


Learner Support and Professional Skills

* Ability to motivate, engage, and support learners with varying abilities.
* Strong communication and organisational skills.
* Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
* Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities in an FE environment.


Desirable

* Experience in a personal tutor or pastoral role.
* Experience supporting learners with additional needs.

* Commitment to maintaining up-to-date industry knowledge.
* Willingness to engage in continuous professional development.


Desirable

* Industry experience in games design or software development.
* Experience supporting employer engagement, live briefs, or industry projects.
* Links with local or national games/digital employers.

* Willingness to work flexibly to meet curriculum needs.
* Ability to use digital systems for teaching, assessment, and communication.


Desirable

* Willingness to contribute to open events, recruitment, and curriculum promotion.
