Pharmacy Technician – Primary Care (General Practice)
£32,000 – £38,000 per annum (DOE)
This role is part of a transformational programme in Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice, focused on delivering person-centred, coordinated care while improving patient outcomes and supporting safer, more effective prescribing.
About the Role
Working closely with the Clinical Pharmacist and GP practices, you will play a key role in improving prescribing processes, enhancing patient safety, and supporting medicines optimisation across the network.
You’ll help patients get the most from their medicines while reducing clinical risk and unnecessary waste, contributing to a more efficient and effective primary care service.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out medicines switches in line with agreed protocols, including reviewing and updating patient records and communicating changes
* Undertake medicines optimisation tasks such as dose optimisation and synchronisation
* Promote electronic repeat dispensing and online ordering
* Support improvements in repeat prescribing processes
* Conduct prescribing audits using GP clinical systems (e.g. SystmOne)
* Analyse and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) in line with NICE guidance
* Maintain accurate records across systems including incident reporting and prescribing data
* Work collaboratively with GP practices and the ICB Clinical Pharmacy team
* Contribute to the delivery of the Medicines Optimisation Strategy
* Participate in and share outcomes from clinical audits to drive continuous improvement
Essential:
* BTEC/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Pharmaceutical Sciences
* Registered with the GPhC
* Experience working as a qualified Pharmacy Technician (primary care, community, or hospital)
