Job Summary
The Associate Dispatcher (System Operator) is a training position for becoming a Dispatcher (System Operator) in the Duke Energy Florida Energy Control Center. The primary responsibility is to complete Duke Energy's Dispatcher Qualification Program during the initial 12-15 months of employment. The program aims to develop proficiency in all System Operator functions through various training methods including classroom instruction, on-the-job training, field experience, and power system simulation.
Responsibilities
The Associate Dispatcher (System Operator) is a training role for future Dispatchers in the Florida Energy Control Center, responsible for all transmission desk functions. Key duties include operating and maintaining the high voltage transmission system safely and reliably, coordinating switching activities, optimizing system resources, analyzing system contingencies, and implementing contingency plans. The role requires working 12-hour rotating shifts, as power system control is a 24-hour operation.
The position encompasses two classifications: "Balancing Authority" and "Transmission." The former involves managing generation and energy transactions, while the latter focuses on transmission system operations. Both roles require working on-call, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Basic Qualifications
* Associate degree in Electrical Technology with 6 years of related experience, or
* Bachelor's degree in a technical field with 6 years of related experience, or
* Military certifications accepted in lieu of the associate degree.
Desired Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
* Experience in Transmission Maintenance, Relay Technology, or Generation Plant Operations
* NERC Certification
Specific Requirements
* Pass the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatcher (SOPD) Test and an industrial psychologist assessment.
* Complete a 7-year background check and training on critical infrastructure protection.
* Pass the North American Electric Reliability Corporation System Operator Certification Exam within the first year.
Additional Details
Work will be performed onsite at a company facility. Travel requirements are 5-15%. The position is represented by the Main IBEW Florida Union. No visa sponsorship is provided.
