The Role
As Senior Toolmaker, you will play a pivotal role in the design, manufacture, maintenance, and improvement of tooling that underpins production performance. This is a hands-on, senior technical role with responsibility for complex tooling work, problem-solving, and supporting both the Toolroom Supervisor and wider manufacturing teams.
You will work across a broad range of tooling activities, including injection mould tooling, EDM, CNC machining, and prototype manufacture, while helping to drive standards, reliability, and continuous improvement within the department.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and manufacture jigs, fixtures, electrodes, prototype tooling, and production tools using Toolroom machinery
2. Program and operate CNC, EDM, and conventional machine tools to tight tolerances
3. Carry out full lifecycle injection mould tooling maintenance, repair, and modification
4. Lead complex tooling breakdowns and fault resolution, minimising production downtime
5. Implement design changes and tooling improvements to support quality, efficiency, and production requirements
6. Assemble, fit, and align mould tools and components accurately for production use
7. Inspect tooling using precision measuring equipment to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications
8. Maintain accurate records of tooling maintenance, repairs, and modifications
9. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and support continuous improvement initiatives
10. Liaise with Engineering, Production, and external suppliers to support project delivery
11. Provide technical guidance and support to Toolroom colleagues and wider departments
12. Support the Toolroom Supervisor when required, including providing cover during absences
13. Ensure the Toolroom is maintained to high standards of safety, housekeeping, and compliance
About You
You will be a highly skilled and experienced Toolmaker with strong technical capability and the confidence to take ownership of complex tooling challenges.
Essential requirements include:
14. Time-served Toolmaker with extensive benching and fitting experience
15. Strong background in injection mould tooling repair, modification, and maintenance
16. Experience operating CNC, EDM, milling, turning, and grinding machinery
17. Ability to read and interpret component and tooling drawings
18. Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-focused approach
19. Strong understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices
20. Ability to work independently while supporting team objectives
Desirable:
21. CAD/CAM experience
22. Experience working in a high-volume or precision manufacturing environment
