As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will take the lead in designing and developing cutting-edge ROV trenching
systems and components. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure that project specifications are met, and designs are executed efficiently.
Key Areas of Responsibility
• Lead structural and mechanical engineering design projects from concept through to manufacturing.
• Prepare detailed engineering calculations to support design decisions.
• Create detailed technical drawings and design documentation using 2D and 3D CAD software
(preferably AutoCAD, MathCAD and Inventor).
• Conduct design reviews and simulations to validate concepts and improve designs.
• Oversee structural analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and power transmission systems and
machinery design.
• Conduct FMECA, HAZOP, HAZID and safety by design reviews.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project specifications are met efficiently.
• Ensure the suitability of designs for subsea and harsh environments, considering material science,
corrosion effects, and hydraulic sealing systems.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and System Integration Testing (SIT).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
Key Tasks
• Develop specifications and concepts that align with user needs and project goals.
• Stress analysis, including beam theory, strength of materials.
• Welding and plating design, including design for machining, limits and fits.
Key Measurables
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations throughout the design process.
• Proficient with Free body diagrams for multi-body linkages.
• Check and approve hand calculations & FEA, including plates and shells, and beam element STAAD pro.
Key Behaviours
• Enthusiastic team worker.
• Good organisational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use own initiative and work flexibly.
Education and Qualifications Specific to Role
Essential Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering or a related field.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, MathCAD and Inventor) is
essential.
• Working knowledge of DNV design codes for lifting appliances and
marine operations.
• Previous experience of producing welding, machining and assembly
drawings.
