Position: Assistant Headteacher



Location: Bury, Greater Manchester



Hours: 40 hours per week, term time



Salary Details: Up to £42,000 per annum DOE



As Assistant Headteacher you will take the lead in enabling the team at Chesham House School to meet our young peoples’ emotional needs. Our young people have challenging complex emotional and behavioural needs (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and need more support than most. You will make sure they get it by applying high standards of care. It means working with families and developing pastoral support programs for each individual young person. With careful assessment and planning, you will create a positive learning environment where every young person can reach their personal best.



About the School:



Chesham House School is an independent specialist provision which provides high quality, personalised education for young people aged 10 to 18 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties and who are at significant risk. Our approach to education at Chesham School is to inspire and engage our learners through a range of positive learning experiences. We strongly believe that all learners can achieve their personal best with the right guidance, encouragement and support.



Core Purpose of the Assistant Headteacher:




1. To provide professional leadership and management of the School that will promote a secure foundation from which to achieve high standards in all areas of the School’s work.

2. To achieve success, Assistant Headteacher will work with the Headteacher and Regional Lead and other key stakeholders.

3. Deliver the school’s vision, provide leadership and direction.

4. Demonstrate outstanding leadership.

5. Promote excellence, equality and high expectations of all students.

6. Effectively and efficiently manage resources to achieve the school’s aims.

7. Drive school performance and deliver continuous improvement.

8. Carry out day-to-day management, organisation and administration.

9. Create a safe, compelling and progressive learning environment that leads to students who are ready, confident and enthusiastic about their education and school.




Duties and Responsibilities




10. Play an active part of the Senior Leadership Team and lead the school alongside the other members of this team, with enthusiasm, ambition and confidence.

11. Represent the SLT to all stakeholders.

12. Demonstrate personal enthusiasm for, and commitment to, embracing the love of learning and education.

13. Champion children, particularly those who are disadvantaged to ensure they are equipped, in the correct uniform and ready to learn.

14. Ensure that the behaviour culture across the school reflects the school’s high standards and ambition for our students, promoting high standards of behaviour and positive attitudes towards learning.

15. Lead the school’s reward and recognition systems and processes.

16. Promote exceptional attitudes and behaviours regarding safeguarding, welfare and safety.

17. Work collaboratively with staff within the SLT, across the school, and the wider Cambian group.

18. Acknowledge excellence and challenge development areas for the school.

19. Build a strong, cohesive staff team that are able to consistently implement the school’s behaviour policies.

20. Challenge, influence and motivate others to attain high goals.

21. Attend meetings of the Leadership Team when required.

22. Attend meetings and report to the governors as required.

23. Contribute effectively to the school development plan and self-evaluation.

24. Play a leading role in the successful implementation of change strategies.

25. Chair meetings of staff and to lead working parties as the need arises.

26. Participate fully in staff development and staff performance management, and lead where necessary.

27. Play a central part in the school’s quality assurance and monitoring processes.

28. Provide statistical information about the school to the Headteacher for internal purposes or, when required, by external agencies.

29. Participate in and lead assemblies as and when required.

30. Help promote, support and sustain excellent relationships with the local community.
