POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the transportation of materials in a safe and timely manner by applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and roads in the area. The professional driver will be responsible for driving to and from designated locations, verifying loads with shipping papers, maintaining records of duty status according to State and Federal Regulations, and performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Must present a professional business image to the public as well as fellow employees. Must possess a valid commercial Class A Drivers' License, Hazmat, Air Brake Endorsements, and Medical card; packaged gas straight truck driver; including pumper, micro-bulk. Class A Drivers' License & Tanker Endorsements are preferred. This position reports to the Site Manager or Operations Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Transports cylinders to assigned internal and external customers in a timely and safety-conscious manner. Stays within all posted speed limits and complies with all DOT and company safety policies and procedures.
Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the vehicle and maintains it in a clean and proper condition.
Legibly completes driver log/trip reports daily.
Accurately records cylinders/hard-goods transactions on customer delivery tickets and trip reports.
Maintains good communication with supervisor and management, especially on safety and customer matters.
Operates/drives forklift as required for loading and unloading.
Sets an example for employees by observing company loss prevention policies and procedures. Reports accidents, near misses, unsafe acts or conditions, and obeys safety rules.
Uses effective time management tools to follow through on work commitments and scheduled deadlines. Engages stakeholders to identify issues early, minimize risks, ensure safety, and on-time delivery.
Participates as an active member of the local safety committee when assigned.
Fills cryogenic liquid Dewars and provides first-line technical support.
Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
Must possess a valid commercial Class A Drivers' License, Hazmat, Air Brake Endorsements, and Medical card; packaged gas straight truck driver; including pumper, micro-bulk. Class A Drivers' License & Tanker Endorsements are preferred.
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Previous commercial driving experience or graduation from an accredited commercial driving school preferred.
Minimum of one year road experience preferred with no moving violations in the past three years.
Must be at least 21 years old with an excellent driving record.
Ability to handle 200+ lb. cylinders and lift/bend 50+ lb containers.
Ability to read and write English, perform basic math, handle receipts, read maps and road signs, and maintain duty status records.
Flexible work hours required.
Prolonged sitting, bending, stooping, climbing, working in diverse weather and conditions.
Preferred previous experience in the cylinder gas or chemical industry.
