2-3 months contract with a local authority Job Purpose Contribute to the reduction of noise, nuisance, and public health issues for the residents and workers of Barnet. Responsible for investigating nuisance issues including noise, smoke, odour, and light, as well as public health issues relating to drainage, refuse, and pests. Contribute to a front line ‘witnessing’ service, carrying out visits and gathering evidence of reported breaches. Key Duties/Accountabilities Provide technical professional services to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of residents, workers, and visitors within the Borough. Offer assistance, advice, and use statutory powers to carry out enforcement to maintain professional and legal standards. Deliver high-quality services to ensure the Council discharges its statutory obligations. Control the impact of noise and nuisance on residents and others within the Royal Borough using appropriate enforcement powers, negotiation, and practical knowledge. Respond to, investigate, and resolve service requests relating primarily to noise and nuisance, as well as complaints in other areas within the Environmental Services remit. Work between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm as part of the Noise and Nuisance Service. Assist in the preparation of the service and enforcement of legal notices under relevant legislation. Essential Experience Required Demonstrable experience in the investigation of noise and other statutory nuisances. Demonstrable experience in enforcement. Basic knowledge of related aspects of environmental health such as statutory nuisances, occupational health, health education, food safety, and pest control. Broad knowledge and legal knowledge of environmental health enforcement matters including domestic noise control and nuisance. Essential Qualification Required Qualified Environmental Health Officer or equivalent in EP work is essential.
