We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a motivated, outcome‑driven individual to join the Benefits Service as a Senior Benefits Officer, primarily based within the Appeals Team.
The post holder will support the Processing Team Manager and wider management team in delivering a high‑quality service that meets all statutory and legal requirements.
Responsibilities
* Administer complex Housing Benefit and Local Council Tax Support assessments, with a strong emphasis on quality and accuracy.
* Support the Appeals Team by preparing and submitting clear, accurate and well‑evidenced appeal responses, reviewing case information, drafting robust submissions for the Tribunal Service, and managing deadlines.
* Process and reconsider benefit claims, managing Discretionary Housing Payments and student claims.
* Keep customers informed throughout their application journey and handle multifaceted cases such as disputes, backdating requests, deprivation or diminishing capital cases, student assessments and self‑employed claims.
* Attend tribunal hearings as required.
* Ensure all work is carried out in line with legislation, regulations and established procedures.
The ideal candidate will have experience in housing benefits and strong confidence in applying relevant legislation relating to both housing and council tax benefits.
