About the role

Do you want to enable people with learning disabilities to be as independent as possible and empower individuals to live their best life? Are you looking for a fulfilling role that’s different every day? Are you caring, hardworking, honest and reliable? Well, you should join our team!

Responsibilities

We support adults who have profound and multiple learning disabilities, some of whom have behaviours that challenge. You will positively engage with people, showing your respect for them as an individual, working in a person-centred way. Your skills, knowledge and experience will enable you to recognise, promote and develop a person’s strengths and abilities whilst equipping you to support with any physical, emotional and social requirements they may have. You will ensure that a persons right to privacy, dignity and choice are at the foundation of all you do. You will support and assist people with their health, wellbeing and personal care, paying particular attention to the individuals plans. Care, welfare, safety and security is everyone’s responsibility, ensuring that you follow relevant policies and procedure will enable us all to work safely.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all our employees and volunteers to share this commitment. This position is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

At Stoke-on-Trent City Council, we believe our strength comes from the diversity of our community, and we want our workforce to reflect that. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. We understand that some people, especially those from underrepresented or marginalised backgrounds, may hesitate to apply if they don’t meet all the listed requirements. If this role interests you and you think you could be a good fit, we encourage you to apply. We are proud of what makes each of us unique and are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels included, can be themselves, and can succeed together.
