Design Manager - construction/residential - Manchester
We are working with a main contractor who is looking for a Design Manager to work on new build apartment projects across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. The company is well established with a strong portfolio of work and extensive pre-planned works.
Roles, Duties, Responsibilities:
1. Take full responsibility for the design coordination of large projects.
2. Audit the design, identify inconsistencies, discrepancies, and missing information; record, report, and track these in an Information Required Schedule format.
3. Review design development regularly with the Financial Manager to ensure alignment of design and commercial aspects.
4. Manage the production and approval of samples, mock-ups, and quality benchmarks.
5. Produce and manage Open Items Schedules for each trade contractor package.
6. Chair Design Team Meetings with consultant designers; record and track information from DTMs.
7. Coordinate the integration of building services with architectural and structural elements.
8. Identify potential quality issues and latent defects; manage design development to resolve them.
9. Act as a point of contact between the design team and trade contractors.
10. Identify problems and offer solutions.
11. Provide input into Contractors' Proposals for D&B projects.
Background and Industry Experience:
* Background in architectural design or construction management.
* Track record of successful projects, internally or externally.
* In-depth knowledge of the design and construction process.
* Understanding of the pre-construction process.
Additional Skills and Requirements:
* Ability to organize and manage the design phase of a project.
* Experience in at least one large (£10m+) project.
* CAD and bid management skills.
* Experience working on multiple projects in architectural, structural, or project management roles.
* Good presentation and communication skills.
