The Opportunity
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Machining Technician Apprentice (Level 3) to join our skilled engineering team in Gosport. This apprenticeship is ideal for someone looking to begin a career in aerospace manufacturing and precision engineering. You will gain practical, hands-on experience in machining while working towards a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification.
What You’ll Learn and Do
During the apprenticeship, you will be trained to:
1. Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment, including lathes and milling machines
2. Manufacture and repair precision gas turbine engine components to meet repair scheme specifications, quality and production schedule requirements
3. Manufacture/ modify fixtures and tooling for the Machine Shop and any other departments as required
4. Assist production engineering with tool, fixture & jig designs & implement these into repair & overhaul procedures
5. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and process documentation
6. Use precision measuring equipment to inspect components and ensure quality standards
7. Work to strict aerospace safety, quality and regulatory requirements
8. Develop problem-solving skills and contribute to continuous improvement activities
9. Work effectively as part of a skilled engineering team
Training & Qualifications
10. You will complete a Level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship
11. Training will include a combination of on-the-job learning at our site in Gosport and off-the-job study with the training provider PETA at their engineering workshop in Havant (day release)
Entry Requirements
12. GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above
13. A strong interest in engineering, manufacturing or machining
14. Good attention to detail and a practical, hands-on approach
15. Willingness to learn, follow instructions and develop technical skills
16. A positive attitude and a strong work ethic
17. Strong verbal communication and written skills
18. Ability to work safely and responsibly in a workshop environment
