Are you someone who thrives outdoors, enjoys practical work, and wants to play a part in protecting the environment? Whether you're into hiking, wild swimming, bikepacking, or just being out in nature—this role offers the chance to turn your love for the outdoors into something impactful.
We're looking for several Drought Fieldworkers to join our Water Quality team on a fixed-term basis for between 3 and 6 months. You'll be part of a network of field workers visiting rivers and streams across the South of England (Kent to Wiltshire) to monitor low flow conditions and water quality during drought periods. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who's methodical, dependable, and comfortable working with limited supervision once trained. You'll carry out simple on-site tests, collect water samples, and help maintain high-quality data for national monitoring programmes. It's hands-on, physical work sometimes in remote locations and all weather, but you'll be supported by a friendly and experienced team.
This role would suit a recent graduate early in their career looking to gain experience in aquatic ecology or environmental science. We're equally keen to hear from people with relevant outdoor or practical experience, regardless of qualifications, looking for work in this interesting area.
Minimum requirements:
* Some experience of practical ecological fieldwork or outdoor hobbies (e.g., fishing, boating, hiking, and navigating)
* A strong attention to detail
* Willingness to travel and stay away from home regularly
* Ability to swim and work safely in outdoor environments
* A flexible and reliable approach
* A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (due to work location)
Preferred additional skills:
* Previous experience in ecological or environmental fieldwork
* A degree or training in an environmental subject
This is a great opportunity to work outdoors, contribute to nationally important environmental work, and gain experience with one of the UK's leading environmental consultancies.
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
