The Role
The Library Assistant plays a vital role in daily library operations, supporting a seamless experience for users. Responsibilities include delivering 30-60 minute library workshops in classrooms, facilitating book and laptop loans, managing study spaces, assisting students with resources, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, with shifts on weekdays, weekends, and evenings until 8:00 pm. Flexibility for future shift changes is required. Please note, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities
1. Circulation Services: Oversee checkout/return processes, maintain loan records, assist with policies and overdue issues.
2. Study Space Management: Monitor and manage study areas, oversee reservations, resolve usage issues.
3. Student Assistance: Deliver engaging library sessions, guide resource access, provide basic tech support.
4. Resource Maintenance: Shelve returned items, conduct checks, report damages, assist with inventory.
5. General Support: Provide friendly service, support visitors, assist with admin tasks and events.
6. Campus Coverage & Scheduling: Rotate across campuses, work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
7. Promoting Services: Raise awareness of library offerings, gather user feedback.
About You
* Excellent customer service skills, friendly and approachable.
* Experience delivering classroom/library sessions.
* Strong communication skills, collaborative with staff and students.
* Organized, able to multitask, accurate record-keeping.
* Proficient with digital tools, comfortable troubleshooting basic tech issues.
* Flexible and willing to work across campuses and shifts.
* Team player with ability to work independently.
Desirable Skills
* Knowledge of library management systems (e.g., Koha, Alma, Sierra).
* Experience in academic or educational settings.
* Basic IT troubleshooting skills.
* Promotional and outreach abilities.
* Interest in education or librarianship.
* Multilingual or cross-cultural experience, especially with diverse student groups.
