JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: EYFS Class Teacher

Contract Type: Fixed-Term (12 months maternity cover)

Working Hours: Full-Time, Term-Time

Responsible to: Headteacher

Start Date: 1st January 2026 – End Date: 31st December 2026

Salary: M3 – M6

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and caring Reception Class Teacher to cover maternity leave for 12 months. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. You will work closely with colleagues in our pre-school Ducklings (3 year olds) to create a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive environment where each child feels supported and challenged.

We are looking for someone who will embrace and contribute to our ethos, ensuring that children not only flourish academically but also develop spiritually, socially and emotionally.

This role would suit a passionate and skilled educator with a strong understanding of EYFS principles and a genuine love of working with young children.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons in line with the EYFS framework
* Lead the phonics programme within the school.
* Foster a positive and stimulating classroom environment that supports all areas of learning and development
* Monitor, assess and record children's progress and maintain accurate records in line with school policy
* Provide a high standard of pastoral care and build positive relationships with children and their families
* Promote outdoor learning, creativity, and independence in line with the school's ethos
* Ensure the safeguarding, welfare, and safety of all pupils at all times
* Attend staff meetings, training, parent consultations and school events as required

Person Specification

Essential:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* Experience teaching within the EYFS.
* Strong understanding of the EYFS curriculum and assessment.
* Excellent classroom management skills and a nurturing teaching approach.
* Effective communication and organisational skills.
* A collaborative team player with a flexible and positive attitude.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Willingness to support and uphold the school's Christian values and vision.

Desirable:

* Familiarity with Read Write Inc
* Familiarity with Tapestry or other digital learning journals.
* Forest School or outdoor learning experience.

Keeping Children Safe in Education

Our school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
