About the team: The TIO Architecture Team is the design and architecture function of Elsevier's Technology Infrastructure and Operations organization and is responsible for architectural design and consultancy across a multitude of Technology areas. This includes our extensive cloud-based technology footprint, the user experience across the company (including our large developer community), as well as the central tooling and development platforms that enable the company to rapidly advance. About the role: This position provides architectural and structural design leadership for the applicable RELX Business Unit. Additionally, the position ensures ongoing development, maintenance, and delivery of technical knowledge and expertise and determines the technical feasibility of large development projects. Key responsibilities: Architectural ownership of the applicable capabilities, systems and tooling with a strong focus on AI driven development Provide consultancy, leadership, and promotion of development best practices Provide architecture and design for complex systems Perform technical evaluations of new technology and acquisition candidates as required Present technical proposals and solutions to Senior Management stakeholders Assist in the development of comprehensive information security procedures and practices Respond to enterprise security issues, quickly designing and implementing solutions to respond to security requirements Act as a conduit between Global Architecture (Enterprise Architects) and the Engineering or Development teams Work across/with Architects from different organizations Introduce/train teams with new technology and methods Extract/translate findings into alternatives/solutions, identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making Drive technical direction and architecture evolution via reviews and on-floor leadership Proactively monitor new development to discover subsystems or components that should be evolved into shared capabilities Proactively research, monitor, learn, and assess industry/technology advancements and continually build alliances to explore ways to leverage and advance our technical opportunities Requirements: 10 years of experience in software development, architecture, or related technical fields Strong understanding of architectural design, governance, and modern AI driven development methods Hands on experience with Git, GitHub, and contemporary coding practices Familiarity with AI assisted development tools and their underlying architectures (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Copilot Studio, MCP Servers, API Gateway, OpenAI platforms, Large Language Models) Experience with agentic development methods and AI driven workflows Working knowledge across several technical areas such as cloud architectures, API design, front end development, TypeScript, Java, SQL, and CI/CD tooling Understanding of DevSecOps principles, including secure toolchains and RBAC Strong problem-solving skills and experience leading teams through complex technical challenges Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to adapt information for different audiences Why join us?
