The role of a Acute, Oncology Service Enhanced Practitioner is unique & requires strong leadership, sharp clinical judgement, emotional resilience with the ability to have a dynamic approach to work.

The post-holder will act as a Key worker for patients, via telephone triage, emergency department, SDEC or admitted to the Trust with an oncological or haematological emergency, a suspected cancer diagnosis, and complications of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) or with a cancer of unknown primary.

The post-holder will continually evaluate the Acute Oncology Service/Cancer of Unknown Primary service to improve and maintain standards of patient care and promote a seamless service within a multi-professional framework

Be a clinical expert in Acute Oncology Service with excellent communication skills. The role requires the ability to work autonomously and independently but within an integrated collaborative team

Permanent position. We are looking for an individual to be proactive, dynamic & motivated to work with the established AOS CNS team.

Actively engage with Macmillan Cancer Support to contribute expertise and experience and support the Macmillan Corporate Strategy

Contribute to policy making and clinical guidelines internally and externally, necessary to support the Acute Oncology service

Role reflects core components of Enhanced Practitioner:ACCEND framework, professional development MSc, clinical practice, management/organisation, UKONS passport, research & audit, national cancer agenda, NHS 10-year plan & impact on service delivery.

Delivers quality care via evidence based individualised & personalised care.

Point of contact for patients with suspected cancer diagnosis, cancer diagnosis &/or cancer of unknown primary/patients admitted with complications of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment or oncological/ haematological emergency.

Act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care & providing clinical leadership to others

Advanced communications skills when discussing diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis a new cancer diagnosis/suspected cancer diagnosis in sometimes hostile & highly emotive atmospheres.

Support nurses & medical teams review & management of inpatients admitted with suspected cancer diagnosis/cancer of unknown primary & patients admitted with complications of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment or an oncological & haematological emergency.

Work flexibly across the Trust to ensure provision of an Acute Oncology Service ensuring all activities are documented clearly, hand over given and all in the correct format for communication.

Post holder will contribute to the continual develop, implement & evaluate of the Acute Oncology Service i.e. policy, standard operating procedures, audit etc.
