IAC Search have been retained exclusively to identify a high calibre individual for this highly attractive opportunity.
Our client is a privately owned company that has an instantly recognisable brand name within the UK construction, civil engineering and utilities support sectors. The group has ambitious plans to double its revenues over the next 5 years and this essential role will support the transformation of the business infrastructure through this growth phase.
Reporting to the Audit Committee Chairman and CFO, key responsibilities include:
* Lead and evolve the process for identifying, managing, and monitoring critical risks within the business units.
* Work with management to develop pragmatic and effective mitigation plans, and monitor their implementation.
* Keep abreast of best practice developments in Risk Management, Internal Audit and Corporate Governance and ensure relevant learnings are shared across the business.
Assurance & Internal Control
* Develop and agree an annual audit plan using an appropriate risk-based methodology.
* Identify and assess the other sources of assurance within the Group, and the degree to which reliance can be placed on them.
* Carry out audit reviews in line with the agreed plan, reporting back to the Executive and the Audit Committee on key findings and agreed mitigation plans.
* Track the implementation of actions agreed during audits.
* Ensure guidance and assurance is provided to the Executive and Audit Committee on the effectiveness of both business and financial controls in key audit areas and the larger risk and control framework.
* Perform assurance reviews on strategic or significant transactions or transformational projects.
We do not require previous ExCo level operating experience so this role might suit an experienced Deputy Head of Audit or Senior Manager. The individual must however be able to interact at a peer level with the ExCo and genuinely influence strategy and policy. This will be a hands on delivery role, supported by indirect resources from the business units and other assurance functions initially but with scope to grow to remit.
Some relevant construction or similar industry sector experience gained in a high CAPEX spend, long term project based environment will be preferred. Ultimately however, the most important character traits will be a pragmatic and commercial mindset.
The role would require three days a week in either the Head Office or on-site in one of the UK Projects.
