Head of Accounts Payable
Full Time | Permanent | hours per week Salary: £37,500 – £39,000 per annum Location: Birmingham city centre (free onsite parking) Working pattern: On-site, 5 days per week
A large, well‑established education provider in Birmingham is seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Accounts Payable to lead its Accounts Payable and Purchasing operations. This is a key role within the Finance Operations team, offering the opportunity to shape processes, implement new systems, and contribute to the financial management of a large, multi‑site organisation.
Your new role
As Head of Accounts Payable, you will be responsible for the effective operation of Accounts Payable and Purchasing processes, ensuring accurate, timely, andpliant financial activity.
You will support treasury management functions and provide deputy leadership for Finance Operations, contributing to the delivery of high‑quality financial services across the organisation.
1. Lead, manage, and develop Accounts Payable staff
2. Oversee day‑to‑day Accounts Payable operations
3. Manage supplier payments and ensure timely processing
4. Ensure month‑end procedures arepleted to required deadlines
5. Oversee the stationery procurement system
6. Monitor and manage assigned supplier accounts
7. Reconcile overseas expenditure
8. Produce purchasing and expenditure reports for statutory and management reporting
9. Deliver variation and retrospective order reporting
10. Support the implementation of new AP and purchasing systems and staff training
11. Assist with preparation for internal and external audits
12. Monitor petty cash expenditure
13. Deputise for banking system management and wider Finance Operations team
14. Promote high standards, continuous improvement, and staff development
15. Support absence management processes with People Services
16. Ensurepliance with financial regulations and procedures
17. Undertake additional duties relevant to the grade
What you'll need to succeed
18. AAT Level 4, NVQ Level 4 in finance/financial management, or equivalent
19. Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable and Purchasing
20. Understanding of treasury management
21. Experience of managing and developing a team
22. Strong administrative and organisational skills
23. Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office + finance systems)
