Job Title: Trainee Customs Documentation Clerk Location: Basildon, Essex Salary: Up to £24,000 per annum (age and experience dependent) Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM 5:30 PM (37.5 hours per week) Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Start Date: ASAP DBS Check Required: Yes (will be arranged upon offer) About the Role A well-established logistics and freight forwarding company is seeking a detail-oriented Trainee Customs Documentation Clerk to join their Customs Clearance team. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong administrative experience and a keen interest in international trade and customs procedures. Full training will be provided! Key Responsibilities Process import and export customs declarations (including air, sea, and road freight) Create, manage, and maintain all relevant shipping and customs documentation Ensure data accuracy and compliance with HMRC regulations Communicate with customers, shipping lines, port authorities, hauliers, and other external parties Provide accurate advice on customs procedures, duty rates, and documentation Calculate duty/VAT costs for consignments Stay up-to-date with changes in customs regulations and procedures Assist other departments and provide cover when needed Requirements Minimum 1 year of office/administrative experience GCSE Grade 5 (C) or above in English and Maths (or equivalent) Excellent attention to detail Strong communication and organisational skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively Previous experience in freight forwarding, transport, or logistics (preferred) Knowledge of customs declarations (advantageous but not essential) A full UK driving licence and own transport (preferred due to office location) Additional Information - IMPORTANT PLEASE READ A DBS check will be required as part of the onboarding process A full UK driving licence and own transport (preferred due to office location) A flexible approach to working hours may be needed due to the nature of the business To apply, please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your interest in the role.
