Job Description
Job title: IT Network & Infrastructure Engineer
Contract Type: 12-month fixed‑term contract
Location: Ludgate Hill London or Newton Aycliffe (Hybrid)
Salary: £55,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)
Your new role
Here at Hitachi Rail we have a unique opportunity for an experienced IT Network & Infrastructure Engineer to join the team on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis. As an IT Network & Infrastructure Engineer you will support and implement core networking systems as well as providing technical support for all network‑related services including Cisco and Fortigate, BT MPLS, Colt, and MIA.
* Utilise technical skills and experience to resolve new or unforeseen problems.
* Support the infra team on incident problem management and change management of networking‑related activities.
* Support project‑related activities and travel to other company sites to assist in problem resolution, deployment of new hardware installations or upgrades.
* Deploy updates and fixes to network equipment to mitigate security vulnerabilities in order to maintain cyber security compliance.
* Carry out hardening activities to ensure networking equipment complies with cyber‑security policies and meets Cyber Essentials certification.
* Assist the infrastructure team in non‑network equipment related activities such as DHCP, DNS, Zsc, ZIA, ZPA monitoring, asset, server admin, Mitel telephony, firewall administration, and many more.
* Work with other colleagues, group company services, and third‑party providers to ensure business services are delivered in a timely and reliable manner.

About you
Essential
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with business managers.
* Fluent written and spoken English.
* Robust experience providing networking support for corporate infrastructure systems in a multi‑site organisation (500+ persons).
* Strong experience supporting Cisco switches, access points, wireless LAN controllers, systems and upgrades.
* Strong experience supporting Fortigate firewalls, creating firewall rules, VPNs, DMZs, etc.
* Strong knowledge of IP networking including routing and security.
* Strong experience with Cisco Wi‑Fi technologies.
* Good working knowledge of zScaler ZIA, ZPA, and branch connectors.
Desirable
* CCNA certification.
* Good working knowledge of Windows Server administration.
* Good understanding of hardware virtualization, particularly VMware.
* Good understanding of Trellix security products, SCCM, Ivanti.
* Good understanding of the latest versions of Citrix XenApp.
