Bromley Experts by Experience run different services and events for Disabled people across Bromley, empower Disabled people to feedback on local services and to give opportunities for local Disabled people to gain skills and experience in our projects. We need more people to know about us, and to find out what we do, so they can get involved. One way we do this is by using social media platforms
What is involved
* Creating all the content needed for social media posts ready to be shared on Instagram, Facebook and/or LinkedIn.
* Choosing photos or videos from our files or creating graphics.
* Writing clear alt text for any images you use. (Alt text is a written description of an image to help screen-reading technology).
* Writing engaging captions to go with the image or graphic.
* Choosing hashtags.
* You won’t need to post, our communications team member will do that, you’ll send everything to them.
IMPORTANT: Ideally, you will have access to your own internet-enabled device (e.g. a laptop or phone. If this will be a barrier, let us know.)
When / Where / How often?
* This role is flexible; you can create the content from home or remotely and send everything through to us using email or SharePoint.
* This role will be around 5 hours a month, you can do this from home at any time/day.
* You might be asked to go to a Bromley Experts by Experience event, these are monthly, but you don’t need to go to them all and you’ll have lots of notice.
* Every other month, you’ll have a check-in chat with the Volunteer Coordinator.
What you will get out of it
* Receive a Volunteer Welcome and ongoing support from X by X.
* Experience of being part of a team.
* Experience of developing social media content.
* Practice light-touch marketing and communication skills.
* Develop your writing skills, especially for social media.
* Out of pocket travel expenses and free refreshments during events.
* Know that you are supporting Disabled people to find out about services they might want to access.
What we ask of you
* To read and follow the guidance for the role that the Volunteer Coordinator will share with you before you start.
* To be available a few hours a month where possible, and to tell us if you’re not.
* To answer emails and messages from the Volunteer Coordinator and the Systems Manager within a week of them being sent.
* To send your social media content to the Systems Manager each month using SharePoint or email etc.
* To listen to any feedback and to ask questions or for help to put it into practice.
* To be enthusiastic about content creation.
Key skills and qualities
* A belief that Disabled people can and should be actively welcomed and included in our communities. An understanding that it is barriers in society that make that harder. This is called the Social Model of Disability .
* An interest in social media and communications.
* Enjoy writing and being creative.
* Some graphic design or Canva skills would be very helpful.
