Overview
Regulatory Services Officer position within the Public Protection Service, focusing on supporting the work of the Commercial Protection Team.
Responsibilities
* Carry out sampling activities and inspections of local businesses and residential premises to ensure compliance with public protection legislation.
* Investigate criminal and civil offences where appropriate and report for formal legal action.
* Manage your own caseload of proactive and reactive inspections, complaint investigations and service requests.
* Support officers within the Commercial Protection Team and contribute to a wide range of regulatory activities including health protection, infection control, health and safety at work, food safety and integrity, animal welfare and port health.
Qualifications and Skills
* Good level of general education including 5 GCSEs (including English Language and Mathematics) or equivalent.
* Experience in Local Government, preferably in customer facing services such as Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Licensing or within a regulatory or enforcement service.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence effectively.
* Ability to work independently while maintaining a customer-focused approach and the ability to plan and prioritise workloads.
* Willingness to travel; must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle to use for work around Westmorland and Furness.
