Mortuary technician needed in Birmingham, £25ph PAYE - Reference: MT1 6 month contract with a possible extension Monday to Friday 35 hours You will ideally be a Qualified anatomical pathology technologist – must be able to undertake all duties in the post mortem rooms and be fit to undertake receipt and to release the deceased. Start work around 8am latest daily as post mortems happen in the morning. They will not be required to be part of the on call rota. To receive and register bodies at the Central Mortuary To enter required information on to the Coroners IT system To facilitate the confirmation of deceased identity To store bodies in accordance with procedures and HTA requirements To prepare bodies for post mortem To assist during the autopsy process. This will include the removal of viscera and other requirements of the pathologist To take samples as directed by pathologists To carry out the respectful restoration of the deceased after post mortem To liaise with contractors for the collection of bodies and their delivery to the Central Mortuary To liaise with funeral directors and ensure the release of bodies in accordance with procedures To deal with telephone and other enquiries relating to the service both from internal customers (Coroners and Coroners Officers) and external customers (Funeral Directors, Emergency Services and families) To facilitate viewings To service, maintain, clean and disinfect both instruments and equipment To maintain high standards of hygiene within the post mortem suite and body storage areas To ensure the safe storage and return of personal effects removed from a body To ensure controlled release, transport and storage of samples from, to and within the Mortuary To comply with all departmental procedures under the HTA system This is a full time role on a temporary contract basis If you are interested in the role please apply on our website with your CV, alternatively you can email your CV to katie@essentialemploy.co.uk quoting the reference number.
