Advanced Paediatric Dietitian

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self‑motivated Advanced Paediatric Dietitian to join the Nutrition and Dietetic Service at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based at Royal Lancaster Hospital with occasional travel to support the cross‑bay dietetic team.

We are in a period of transformational change in this service and are looking for a motivated, flexible and forward‑thinking Paediatric Dietitian ready to advance professional and clinical development in a senior role.

Main duties

The post covers both inpatient and outpatient work. Responsibilities include managing a complex caseload across nutrition support, enteral feeding, gastroenterology, food allergies, and feeding problems for infants, children and young people. The role works closely with the paediatric multidisciplinary team, consultants, specialist nurses, ward staff, health visitors, children's community nurses and speech and language therapists. Key opportunities include leading audit projects, involvement in student training, and flexible working patterns.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics approved by the British Dietetic Association
  • Leadership / Management qualification
  • Accredited training in risk assessment & management
  • Post‑registration experience at specialist level or above in paediatric dietetics
  • Experience as a supervisor or mentor of registered and student dietitians
  • Leadership and first‑line management experience
  • Research and clinical audit experience

  • Specialist level or above dietetic knowledge, skills and experience
  • Ability to work autonomously and set own priorities
  • Supervisory and appraisal skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships and teams
  • Advanced assessment, observation, evaluation and reporting skills
  • In‑depth knowledge of current best practice in paediatric dietetics
  • Detailed knowledge of health and social care legislation and guidelines
  • Explicit knowledge of clinical governance principles
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Ability to manage work pressures and seek support when needed

Disclosure

Posting is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975; a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.

Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 a year, pro rata.

To assist with assessment, the successful candidate will be required to attend an assessment centre for a face‑to‑face interview.
