Milberg London was established in 2020 as an independent law firm focused exclusively on claimant litigation. We specialise in large-scale consumer group actions against corporate defendants.
We are a young, ambitious, dynamic team and there is scope for the right person to grow with the business at their own pace and operate outside the confines of a traditionally structured law firm team.
In light of our expanding team and growth, we are looking for a Compliance Manager to ensure adherence to our regulatory framework and in-house policies, as well as providing guidance and assistance to fee-earners on various compliance matters. The successful candidate will be our first dedicated compliance member of staff and be based primarily in our London office, though support to our regional offices will also be required.
The successful candidate must be comfortable saying “no” when necessary and be result-oriented. They must have a strong understanding of our legal and regulatory frameworks, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop Control Systems: Develop and oversee control systems to prevent or deal with violations of legal and regulatory frameworks and internal policies.
* Evaluate Controls: Evaluate the efficiency of controls and improve them continuously.
* Revise Procedures: Revise procedures, reports, etc., periodically to identify hidden risks or non-conformity issues.
* Policy Implementation: Draft, modify, and implement firm policies.
* Collaboration: Collaborate with COLP, COFA, partners and HR to monitor enforcement of standards and regulations.
* Risk Management: Assess the business’s risk management procedures. Assess future ventures to identify possible compliance risks and provide commercial solutions.
* Compliance Review: Review the work of colleagues when necessary to identify compliance issues and provide advice or training.
* Regulatory Developments: Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the company as well as evolving best practices in compliance control.
* Reporting: Prepare reports for COLP and COFA and external regulatory bodies as appropriate.
Requirements and Skills:
* Experience: Proven experience as a compliance manager in a law firm.
* Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the industry’s standards and regulations.
* Reporting Skills: Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping.
* Analytical Skills: An analytical mind able to “see” the complexities of procedures and regulations and apply them productively to our practice.
* Communication: Excellent communication skills.
* Education & Qualifications: BSc/BA in law, finance, business administration, or related field. Certified compliance professional is a plus.
