Mechanical Engineer – Water & Utilities

A well-established Mechanical & Electrical Engineering contractor operating within the UK water sector is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to support ongoing and future projects. The business delivers installation, maintenance, and repair works across water utility sites and offers long-term, stable employment.
This is a hands-on, site-based role reporting to a Project Manager. You’ll be expected to work professionally on live sites, deliver quality mechanical work, and represent the business positively with clients.
The role
You’ll carry out a wide range of mechanical engineering activities across multiple sites, working on both short-duration and longer-term projects. Duties include:

Reading, understanding, and signing RAMS
*
Interpreting 2D and 3D design drawings
*
Mechanical installation and repair of pumps, fans, and gearboxes
*
Pipework and valve installation (small to large diameter)
*
Installation, servicing, and repair of penstocks and flap valves
*
General steelwork including handrails, ladders, and platforms
*
Erection of lifting gantries
*
Mechanical maintenance and servicing of plant
*
Working at height, in confined spaces, and hazardous areas
*
Customer-facing site work and maintaining good client relationships
*
Participation in a 24/7 call-out rota for reactive breakdowns
*
Compliance with health, safety, quality, and site-specific procedures
*
Maintaining clean, safe, and compliant work areas
About you
You’ll be a practical mechanical engineer who can manage your workload and work well as part of a team. Requirements include:

Completed mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications
*
Valid CSCS card
*
Strong health & safety awareness
*
Good written and verbal communication skills
*
Ability to organise time and priorities effectively
*
Water industry experience preferred but not essential
