What's involved with this role: JOB TITLE: Estimator - Quantity Surveyor - Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain REF: Newcastle 5270592 Pay rate: £20.48 per hour PAYE, TBC The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join a local authority team within the Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain function. You will support the strategic delivery of public services and capital projects, helping to ensure value for money and quality outcomes for the local community. Key Responsibilities may include: Provide accurate cost estimates and surveys across a range of construction, infrastructure, and service delivery projects. Support procurement activities by contributing to tender specifications, bid evaluations, and contractor negotiations. Analyse project costs and monitor ongoing expenditure against budgets, identifying risks and value-engineering opportunities. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop procurement strategies aligned with best practices and local authority policies. Assist in the preparation and review of contracts, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and financial standards. Produce detailed reports, forecasts, and risk assessments to inform decision-making by senior management. What the client is looking for: Proven experience in estimating, quantity surveying, or cost control within construction, public works, or a related field. Strong understanding of procurement principles, particularly within the public sector or local government context. Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail. Familiarity with contract forms such as NEC, JCT, or similar. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
