Our client, a leading consultancy in the automotive sector, is currently seeking a Mechanical Development Engineer to join their team. This contract role demands a solid understanding of automotive components, systems, and associated vehicle parts.
Proven Powertrain experience is essential and ideally knowledge on transmissions. The role involves close collaboration with OEMs, suppliers, and test, design, and analysis teams to define testing plans, analyse results, and recommend design changes. Projects may require working independently or as part of a cross-functional international team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Managing teams and preparing proposals
2. Understanding product development processes for powertrains and transmissions
3. Developing system and component specifications
4. Conducting rig and system validation testing
5. Utilising instrumentation and data capture tools
6. Conducting FMEAs and preparing DVPs (Design Validation Plans)
7. Employing structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, DAMAIC)
8. Preparing and executing test procedures and post-test teardowns
9. Applying metrology skills
10. Handling component manufacturing, supplier liaison, and design release processes
11. Test planning, execution, and reporting
12. Interfacing with engineering teams and specialists
