SEMH Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an independent secondary school for students aged 11 to 19 who will thrive in a small, therapeutic, and nurturing environment. This specialist setting supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a tailored and highly supportive approach to learning.
Key Responsibilities
Provide individualised support to students with SEMH needs, helping them engage positively in lessons and daily routines.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to maintain a calm, structured, and safe learning environment.
Implement behaviour and emotional regulation strategies in line with student support plans.
Encourage the development of social skills, emotional resilience, and confidence.
Support students in overcoming barriers to learning through consistent, empathetic guidance.Applicant Suitability
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly advantageous.
Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
Ability to build trusting and supportive relationships with students.
Resilience, flexibility, and a genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people succeed.
