Overview
We are seeking a hands-on and dependable Engineering Operative to support maintenance activities across our production facility. This is a practical, on-the-ground role suited to someone with mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience who enjoys problem-solving and working in a fast-paced environment. Working on a two-shift rotation (earlies and lates), the successful candidate will carry out planned and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime, support production efficiency, and ensure all equipment operates safely and effectively.

* Job Title: Engineering Operative
* Hours: Monday to Friday, 2-shift rotation (Earlies and Lates) 8-hour shifts
* Pay: £38,000 £42,000 per annum (depending on experience)
* Reports to: Head of Engineering

Key Responsibilities
* Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks according to schedule.
* Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, ensuring swift diagnosis and repair.
* Support fault finding across mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
* Record maintenance activities clearly using job sheets or a CMMS platform.
* Follow all health & safety procedures, including safe isolation, permit-to-work, and PPE use.
* Assist with equipment setup, changeovers, and small installation projects.
* Maintain a clean and organised workshop and working area.
* Communicate effectively with production and engineering teams to minimise disruption.
* Escalate unresolved or recurring faults to the Lead Engineer.
* Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues or improvement opportunities.
Key Skills & Experience
* Previous experience in a maintenance or engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
* Excellent understanding of mechanical and/or electrical systems (multi-skilled preferred).
* Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to fault resolution.
* Awareness of health & safety regulations and safe working practices.
* Reliable and adaptable, able to work independently across different shifts.
* PC literate and comfortable completing maintenance records using Excel or maintenance software.
