Overview
Provision of all-round Fabric Engineer, maintaining all the R&D building’s and infrastructure in Reading. Must have an understanding and knowledge of all current Building Service Systems and contingency procedures, which comply with Health & Safety & Codes of Practice. The Fabric Engineer supports the Contract Manager by being the dedicated Fabric Engineer for the Research & Development Buildings and an integral member of the team delivering engineering excellence across the full spectrum of services, as well as assisting the wider team and client with tasks outside of the Fabric expertise but within capabilities when required. The role is 40 hours per week from 08:00 to 16:30 with start and finish times potentially flexible. There may be out of hours work for statutory maintenance, permitting and escorting cover for client service providers, and an on-call rota of 1 in 4 on average.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Operate all systems within the buildings in a competent, effective, and efficient manner.
* Issue relevant site Permits as part of the Safe System of Work.
* Complete PPM and Reactive Tasks and update the electronic workflow system keeping the records compliant.
* Ensure daily checks are completed and repair or report any defects via the FM helpdesk.
* Identify materials required to be ordered and installed in a timely manner.
* Comply with statutory and company health, safety and environmental regulations and policies.
* Ensure Specialist Service Provider worksheets are reviewed and signed off, quality of work is inspected, and recommendations escalated to the Supervisor.
* The Site team will keep Plant areas, workshops, stores, changing/rest areas etc. to a high standard of housekeeping.

* Previous knowledge of a compliance role is an advantage
Skills
* Appropriate experience within Building Fabric Services
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with staff and customers at all levels
* Experience as an end user of a Building Management System (Trend). (Training Given)
* Intermediate computer literacy using Windows Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook). PDA & Tablet use
* Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
* Excellent numeracy and literacy skills, with experience of report writing
* Be able to adapt and work as a team outside of their trade but within their capabilities
Qualifications
* C&G or equivalent experience in Fabric Engineering
* Legionella Awareness – L8 ACOP
* Be conversant with current Health and Safety legislation relevant to safe working practices
* Sound level of administration/organisational skills & computer skills
