Job overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse to join our multidisciplinary cardiac rehabilitation team. The post holder will deliver evidence-based, patient-centred cardiac rehabilitation across all phases, supporting patients following cardiac events and interventions to optimise recovery, reduce risk factors, and improve long‑term outcomes. The role includes clinical assessment, exercise prescription, education, health promotion, and contribution to service development in line with national guidelines.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist clinical leadership and expert nursing care within their area of practice, undertaking comprehensive patient assessment, advanced clinical interventions, referral management, and discharge planning. They will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, patient-centred care, involving patients and carers in decision-making and service development. The role includes clinical supervision, education and competency assessment of staff, contribution to training programmes, and leadership of nurse-led initiatives in line with Trust policies and national standards. The post holder will support service evaluation and improvement, ensure effective use of resources, maintain accurate records, promote health, safety and best practice, and meet professional responsibilities in accordance with the NMC Code, Trust policies and ongoing professional development requirements.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a range of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. All three provide a full range of general hospital services, including emergency departments, critical/coronary care units, consultant-led services, and an urgent treatment centre. Additional services are delivered through community outreach, diagnostics, and planned care such as outpatients, daycase and inpatient surgery.
Our Community Service for adults is delivered in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP practices, and community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health, and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
Person specification
Qualifications/Experience
* 1st level registered nurse.
* Recent post‑basic clinical qualification in a relevant clinical area.
* Mentoring / assessing qualification or teaching qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, Professional Trainers Certificate).
* Recent relevant experience at senior level within the speciality.
* Evidence of clinical competence in the speciality.
* Able to assume a lead clinical role as appropriate.
* Understanding of the setting and monitoring of standards.
* Evidence of teaching and developing staff.
* Able to work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team.
* Recent leadership development or willingness to work towards a leadership qualification.
