The Role

Senior Regulatory Specialist will provide technical leadership, managing activities relating to the development of fusion safety, security and environmental regulation domestically and internationally. This includes advising government, assisting regulatory bodies, and contributing to strategic industry documents and technical fusion safety guidance. Internationally, the role involves coordinating with groups such as the IAEA and may require travel to build relationships with multi-organisational teams and support focal regulatory topics.


Key Responsibilities

* Manage fusion safety regulation programme activities and provide team leadership as required.
* Lead domestic and international stakeholder relationships to influence and support harmonisation of fusion safety regulation.
* Provide expert input on fusion safety, security and environmental regulation for national and international regulatory frameworks.
* Input to IAEA documents on the Fusion Regulatory Framework and Safety Assessment; contribute to standards for fusion where applicable.
* Present influential work at domestic and international conferences and seminars.
* Provide technical input and review documentation to guide safety, security and environmental cases for the fusion industry.


Qualifications

Essential

* A postgraduate qualification in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent experience.
* Extensive experience in producing nuclear or high hazard safety cases and assessing radiological safety, environmental and waste hazards, or COMAH safety reporting.
* Deep knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act, Environmental Permitting Regulations, and other regulations relevant to nuclear, radiological and high hazard safety and security.
* Experience in regulatory interactions at technical or strategic levels.
* Experience leading or coordinating input to national and/or international industry workgroups on safety, security and environmental case development.
* Ability to communicate technical information to a non-specialist audience.

Desirable

* Experience modelling radionuclides to estimate dose to the public and environment (advantageous).
