Job Summary

BASEC, part of Kiwa UK, is seeking a Cable Preparation Technician to join our team in Milton Keynes. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for preparing product samples using a range of hand and power tools, ensuring they are ready for technical testing by our engineers. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to gain practical experience in a laboratory environment, with full on-the-job training provided.

About The Role

* Work with the M&E Lead to prioritise cable samples for preparation.
* Assist in performing basic tests according to national and international standards, under supervision.
* Undertake basic testing of products as required, once competent. Examples of testing to be undertaken include (but not limited to): Conductor resistance, insulation thickness, flash testing, voltage testing, tensile strength and elongation measurements.
* Maintain clear communication with colleagues to ensure timely workflow and efficient handover of prepared samples to technicians.
* Ensure all tools and equipment are well-maintained and used safely.
* Support the general upkeep and smooth running of the lab, adhering to all quality, safety, and housekeeping procedures.
* Effectively manage your workload and collaborate with team members to optimise lab operations.

Do you have what it takes?

* Excellent attention to detail.
* Good manual dexterity.
* Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive and proactive attitude.
* Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality responsibilities.
* Experience of working within an engineering/industrial environment preferred, but not essential.
* General understanding of engineering processes and principles.
* GSCE Grade C/4 or above in Maths, English and Science.
* Strong numeracy and literacy skills.
