<div><p>Go back Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust</p><h3>Educational Mental Health Practitioner in Training</h3><p><b>The closing date is 06 July 2026</b></p><p>Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust (NHCFT) is recruiting trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners to join the Northumberland “Be you” Mental Health Support Team. The teams cover Hexham, Blyth, Bedlington, Ashington, Alnwick, Coquet, Cramlington and Seaton Valley. Trainees will be trained to deliver the three core functions within the existing partnership of schools.</p><p>These training posts work with Education Mental Health Practitioners, Senior Wellbeing Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Peer Mentors and a Designated Senior Mental Health Lead in schools Coordinator. Collaboration occurs with colleagues from Northumberland Council, Educational Psychologists, assistants and voluntary partner Cygnus.</p><p>During the training year, trainees develop core skills and knowledge in the three core functions of a mental health in schools team, including clinical skills and evidence‑based interventions in school settings. They provide advice and support to improve whole school approaches to pupil emotional wellbeing, facilitate staff training, consultation and sign‑posting to other services.</p><h3>Main duties of the job</h3><p>Trainees will be trained to deliver the three core functions of a Mental Health Support Team in schools and will support staff in education settings to identify and manage mental health and wellbeing issues. Collaboration with school settings and the Be you team partnership will deliver whole‑school approaches to promote positive wellbeing and evidence‑based prevention programmes.</p><p>Trainees will complete a 12‑month training programme on the Postgraduate Diploma in Emotional Wellbeing in the Educational Environment (EMHP) at the University of Northumbria beginning September 2026. The recruitment process with the University ensures clinical and academic requirements are met.</p><p>Post holders must meet the Trust’s work experience entry requirements and the University of Northumbria’s academic requirements.</p><p>This post falls within Agenda for Change Annex 20 – Development of Professional Roles. Upon completion of competencies, post holders may progress to the next pay band without a new application.</p><h3>Job responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Educationally supervised, supported and assessed to deliver outcome‑focused, evidence‑based interventions in educational settings for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.</li><li>Support children and young people, their parents/carers, families, and educators in self‑management of presenting difficulties.</li><li>Practice evidence‑based skills under supervision, partnering with children, young people, families and educators to develop intervention plans and agree outcomes.</li><li>Collaborate and coproduce agreed plans of care with children, young people and, where appropriate, parents/carers.</li><li>Ensure assessment and intervention are inclusive and respect diversity.</li><li>Work collaboratively with partners across the emotional and mental health pathway to ensure appropriate support is accessed according to local and national referral routes.</li><li>Under supervision, conduct accurate risk assessments for self and others.</li><li>Engage in sign‑posting referrals for complex needs to relevant services.</li><li>Participate in robust managerial and clinical supervision, clarifying scope of practice and working safely.</li><li>Apply a range of interventions for evidence‑based psychological treatments, primarily guided self‑help.</li><li>Contribute to the development of individual or group clinical and training materials, and further develop such materials within competence.</li><li>Communicate safety and wellbeing risks or issues to appropriate parties to maintain safety and the public interest.</li><li>Post holders will commence the 12‑month Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Studies in the Education Environment (EMHP) at the University of Northumbria Newcastle in September 2026. The training post is a Level 7 Master’s programme aimed at developing trainees into qualified EMHPs. Entry via a value‑based interview with NHCFT leading to employment as a trainee EMHP.</li></ul><h3>Person Specification</h3><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Good basic literacy and numeracy qualifications at minimum Level 2.</li><li>Applicants must have a Foundation degree, DipHE, HND or equivalent, or an equivalent level of relevant experience with a proven record of learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health.</li></ul><h3>Experience and Knowledge</h3><ul><li>Experience working with children and young people and an understanding of the English education system is highly desirable.</li><li>Knowledge or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools.</li></ul><h3>Other requirements</h3><ul><li>Post holder must have a valid driving licence and be either a car owner able to use the car for work or have a Trust personal lease vehicle.
