We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Bromsgrove District and Redditch to assist with the appointment of a HGV Mechanic, on a 6-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £18.11 - £24.05 per hour
Summary:
The HGV Mechanic will inspect, repair, and service a wide range of vehicles, plant, and equipment used by Bromsgrove and Redditch Councils. This includes refuse collection vehicles, sweepers, tippers, mowing equipment, tractors, and handheld tools. The role also involves MOT and taxi testing, attending breakdowns, and ensuring work meets legislative, safety, and service standards.
Responsibilities:
* Inspect, maintain, and repair the councils fleet of light and heavy goods vehicles, small plant, and agricultural machinery.
* Perform MOT tests and retests for Class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles.
* Conduct taxi tests to the standards set by both councils.
* Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical faults.
* Carry out MIG and gas welding as required.
Experience & Knowledge
Proven experience repairing and maintaining both light vehicles and HGVs.
Skilled in welding and mechanical diagnostics, including electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Knowledge of Ministry of Transport Vehicle Inspectorate standards.
Ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, Data Protection, and Freedom of Information legislation.
Requirements:
* Full UK driving licence.
* LGV Category C licence with current CPC training card.
* City & Guilds (or equivalent) in vehicle/LGV/HGV repair and maintenance.
