4 Month Contract With A Local Authority Job Summary: We are seeking a qualified and experienced Solicitor to join our legal team, with a primary focus on prosecutions. The role will involve reviewing, advising on, and preparing prosecution cases and representing the authority in Magistrates’ Court proceedings. While the primary need is within the prosecutions area, experience in general litigation, including civil litigation, is highly desirable and will be considered an asset to the team. Key Responsibilities: Review evidence and case files to determine the merits of prosecution. Provide clear legal advice and guidance to internal departments on enforcement and prosecution matters. Draft legal documents, summonses, charges, and court bundles for prosecution cases. Represent the authority as an advocate in the Magistrates’ Court, including first appearances, trials, and sentencing hearings. Liaise with investigators, enforcement officers, and external agencies to prepare cases. Assist with civil and general litigation work as required. Maintain accurate legal records and case management systems. Keep up to date with relevant legislation, case law, and court procedures. Essential Requirements: Qualified Solicitor entitled to practice in England and Wales. Experience in prosecutions, criminal litigation, or regulatory enforcement. Strong advocacy skills and experience conducting cases in the Magistrates’ Court. Excellent legal drafting and analytical skills. Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and under pressure.
