Our Restructuring & Insolvency team has a wide area of expertise, focusing on insolvency matters; including advising banks, insolvency practitioners, debtors and other creditors on all matters arising where insolvency is likely or where a formal insolvency is imminent or has occurred.
As a Paralegal, you’ll join the team to provide assistance with advising creditors and insolvency practitioners on court applications, claims and technical points. You will have the responsibility for managing your own caseloads under supervision from qualified lawyers in the team. You’ll be required to provide preliminary advice and guidance to clients, as well as preparing letters and documents for court cases. In addition, you may be required to assist with insolvency petitions and applications such as bankruptcy, winding up, applications under s236 of the Insolvency Act 1986, preference claims, claims for transactions at an undervalue and applications for possession. You’ll work to support leading solicitors and experts on interesting and diverse cases. You’ll be expected to provide assistance with regard to the team’s clients and caseloads, including dealing with new client enquiries, drafting documents, conducting legal research, speaking with clients, experts and colleagues across the firm. Working within the team, you’ll have the opportunity to work with leading individuals on landmark cases and will be supported by them to further your knowledge of Restructuring and Insolvency law. As we pride ourselves on excellent client care, you will be an exceptional communicator with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Given the nature of the role, you’ll need to be commercially minded and communicate with professionalism at all times. You’ll need to strike the balance between working quickly and efficiently but also remember that the client is at the heart of everything you do.
As part of the Irwin Mitchell Group’s onboarding process all successful applicants are required to complete the group’s employment screening process. This process helps to ensure that all new employees meet our standards in relation to honesty and integrity, thereby protecting the interests of the Group, colleagues, clients, partners and other stakeholders. We carry out pre‑employment screening to establish your eligibility to work in the UK, as well as criminal record and financial checks with our trusted 3rd parties. The employment screening process complies fully with Data Protection and other applicable laws.
We also offer a wide range of well‑being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you’re fully supported. This includes our Flexible by Choice programme which gives our colleagues more choice over a hybrid way of working subject to role, team and client requirements. We have been ranked in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing for Large Organisations for 2024! Our responsible business programmes are fundamental to who we are and our purpose. We’re committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace where our colleagues can flourish, and we have established a number of inclusion network groups across our business to support this aim. Our commitment to social responsibility, community investment activity and tackling climate change is a fundamental part of who we are. It’s made up of four strands: Our People, Our Community, Our Environment and Our Pro Bono.
