Role Title: Simulation Engineer
We are Rolls‑Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
The Performance & Analysis team is the centre of excellence for the engineering analysis used to substantiate the performance and safety of the power station. As part of this, we are developing whole‑plant Engineering Simulators to support end‑to‑end design, analysis, verification and validation. Simulation Assisted Engineering is a fundamental part of our strategy, supporting engineering development across all plant systems and disciplines.
About The Role
As a Simulation Engineer, you will contribute to the development, verification and validation of software simulation models of nuclear power plant and control & instrumentation (C&I) systems. You will build high‑fidelity dynamic models using appropriate modelling platforms, ensuring that models are robust, validated and integrated within the wider simulation architecture.
You will support the integration of these models into hardware‑based simulation environments and contribute to defining the processes, tools and facilities that underpin simulation capability across RR‑SMR. The models and environments you develop will be used across the full project lifecycle—including analysis, design verification, safety assessment, operator training and system validation.
You will be part of a growing Specialist Simulation Development Team and may lead integrated project teams for specific simulation activities.
We’ll Need You To
* Develop and quality‑assure dynamic models of plant systems and C&I systems
* Contribute to the development and adoption of Simulator Assisted Engineering methods
* Manage source code and enforce version‑control strategies across simulation workstreams (Git, Azure Repos)
* Support integration of simulation models into both software and hardware simulation environments
* Work closely with analysis developers, plant system owners and other stakeholders to ensure effective model integration
* Contribute to simulation environment development, including tools, policies, procedures and model governance
* Support definition and development of hardware‑in‑the‑loop simulation facilities
* Promote an agile DevOps culture across the Simulation Development Team
Key Skills Required
* Experience with systems engineering fundamentals including concept generation, decision‑making, requirements management and handling complex datasets
* Experience working in an agile software development environment
* Experience in dynamic modelling (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink or similar platforms)
* Experience with common programming languages and software development practices
* Experience with software and hardware integration, including software‑in‑the‑loop and hardware‑in‑the‑loop environments
* Understanding of control systems design and verification
* Experience with modelling or simulation tools such as GSE SimExec, RELAP or JADE Suite (advantageous but not essential)
* Understanding of nuclear or other high‑integrity industry standards (IEC 61508/61513, ASME NQA‑1, ANSI/ANS‑10.7, ISO 9001 etc. beneficial)
* Experience working collaboratively with diverse functions, suppliers or partner organisations
* Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively
* Degree in Computational Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or a similar discipline
