Main duties of the job
To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
The Trust supports the requirements of CPD as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
* Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of research governance
* To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, and operational management
* To support governance activities such as:
o To review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the divisional director or clinical director.
o To participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.
o To work closely with the directorate, patient and public involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the divisional director/clinical director
* To demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams and the Trust.

Job responsibilities
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and divisional director, on behalf of the medical Director with specific responsibilities to be discussed with Heads of Specialty upon appointment. This will include a combination of general neurology and subspecialist clinics and ward rounds and neurology referrals from other specialties.

Person Specification
Clinical Experience
* Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties
* Neurology SpR level experience
* Knowledge of the NHS models of Acute Neurology and SDEC
* Looking for end of neurology training experience at ICHNT
Health
* Meets professional health requirements as per GMC
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Appropriate Royal College Membership (MRCP) or equivalent
* An appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD or PhD)
Clinical Skills
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
* Awareness of the basics of managing neurological disease
* Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
* Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, portfolio evidence, including log book documentation if applicable
* Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
* Demonstrate current ALS certification or equivalent
* Experience of stroke thrombolysis with evidence of training/competency
* Ability to function as a competent independent neurologist
* Knowledge of patient management systems like Cerner
* Clinical Audit and/or Quality Improvement
Language Skills
* Fluent English with evidence provided where necessary
* Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Inclusion on the specialist register for neurology GMC
Fitness To Practise
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely
* Clarity about gaps in CV
