The Finance Assistant will be a key member of the Finance team, contributing to the delivery of an efficient and effective financial and administrative support service across UHI Shetland campuses. The role involves financial operations, day-to-day accounting tasks, and general administration duties, ensuring all processes are conducted accurately and on time using Sage Accounting software and other systems.

MAIN DUTIES

1. Finance Operations

* Assist in the management and operation of Sage Accounting software, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.
* Process purchase orders and input purchase invoices, including appropriate coding and authorisations.
* Process sales invoices and undertake debt management duties as required.
* Receive and record incoming receipts and payments, including preparation for banking.

2. Accounting Duties

* Support the Finance team and external auditors with interim and year-end audit requirements.
* Maintain accurate financial records in line with accounting procedures and audit standards.

3. General Administration Duties

* Monitor and distribute incoming mail and email for the Finance department.
* Participate in reviewing and improving office procedures, contributing to team discussions and implementing agreed changes.
* Provide support across the broader Finance team as needed to ensure smooth departmental operations.

This is not an exhaustive list of all the duties relevant to the needs of the service. The specific responsibilities of the post may be adjusted from time to time, as necessary. The post holder will be expected to have a flexible approach and be willing to adapt to changes in their role in response to the changing needs of UHI Shetland.

The post holder will be expected to commit to all required training and development programmes agreed through the annual appraisal process to ensure compliance with SUHI and sectoral standards.

UHI Shetland mirrors NJNC terms and conditions for Scotland’s College’s Home (njncscotlandscolleges.ac.uk) offering 9 weeks paid annual leave to employees (pro rata). Distant Islands Allowance is currently set at £2,859 which would be in addition to any salary payment (pro Rata).
