The Opportunity
Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott's Diagnostics family, bringing together teams and technologies to support diagnostic testing for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions. The position of Laboratory Analyst is within our Rapid Diagnostics laboratory located at Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
The Laboratory Analyst will operate within the screening and confirmation departments. The analysis of drugs of abuse in biological samples is conducted using immunoassay methods (CEDIA, HEIA and ELISA) or confirmatory techniques (such as LC/MS/MS), or a combination of both.
What You'll Do
Daily tasks
* Train in all screening and confirmation processes, and maintain competencies to perform tasks within these areas
* Extract drugs from oral fluid and hair samples (SPE/LLE) and manage related processes such as setting up batches on instruments, checking sequences, storing and disposing of samples
* Screen oral fluid samples by CEDIA/HEIA/ELISA and prepare daily screening quality controls and reagents
* Prepare laboratory solutions
* Set up instruments and run system suitability checks (SSTs)
* Perform daily, weekly and monthly equipment checks and routine maintenance with associated records
* Maintain safe and efficient working practices in the laboratory to ensure compliance with H&S and quality standards (ISO 17025)
Non-daily tasks
* Assist with accessioning of samples to improve lab flow and help hit KPIs
* Complete all lab/H&S/Quality training modules and assessments on time
* Aid in maintaining stock levels within the laboratory
* Support the development and implementation of new processes and methods
* Act as a buddy for Trainee Analysts as required
Required Qualifications
* Science degree or equivalent experience in a laboratory environment
* Understanding of the panels of drugs analysed and types of extraction methods
* Detail-oriented; demonstrates accountability
* Keen interest in understanding the principal of processes
* Ability to work well individually or as part of a team
* Commitment to safety and quality standards
* Compliance with The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
