Job Purpose
As a core member of the Commercial Policy Team, you will support the development of National Grid Electricity Transmission's commercial frameworks and precedents. Acting as secretariat and the primary strategic contact for a senior governance forum, you will lead processes that gather input from technical experts and negotiate outcomes across the business. You will develop holistic strategies to shape new ways of working in response to government reforms, industry code changes, and evolving customer needs. Helping NGET to ensure our decisions and processes enable compliance, efficient network operation, and progress toward Net Zero goals.
What You'll Do
* Lead the secretariat function for the Policy Change Forum, a senior governance group - owning all planning in how their strategic discussions are shaped, priorities are escallated and ensuring all our governance tools enable effective decision-making.
* Proactively identify and scope complex, high-impact policy challenges and opportunities for Forum consideration, recommending priorities that align with business strategy.
* Champion governance excellence through the RAPID decision-making framework, defining how CND embeds good policy, while orchestating robust methods that record and audit decisions made throughout the department.
* Oversee policy initiatives from conception through implementation, making informed decisions on governance approaches and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timely delivery.
* Influence and negotiate outcomes with teams leading change, brokering alignment where views diverge, and providing clear, actionable reporting to senior Forum members so that all 'next steps' and 'key decisions' are clearly known.
* Communicate with precision by drafting concise, strategic briefings, advice, and updates for internal teams and senior executives on policy developments and governance outcomes.
* Support senior colleagues in shaping policy changes and identifying opportunities for alignment across teams, recommending and taking ownership of improvements to governance processes where needed.
* Contribute to broader strategic initiatives, supporting the advancement of the Commercial Strategy team supporting business planning and governance enhancements which impact the whole of CND.
* Collaborate across the Customer and Network Development teams, through regular corporate contributions.
About You
Governance & Strategic Expertise
* Well experienced in secretariat governance principles – owning and defining all agenda setting, minute-taking, and maintaining accurate records and audit trails.
* Good understanding of governance frameworks and decision-making processes, including the RAPID framework, and how to embed and continuously improve these into suitable business operations.
* Can independently design and lead strategic scoping exercises: identifying risks, opportunities, and interdependencies across business areas – and shape senior decision-making by providing clear, evidence-based recommendations on priorities and discussion topics for the Policy Change Forum.
* Strategic ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, brokering alignment across competing views and ensuring timely flow of information between senior leaders and technical teams.
Strong communicator
* Drafts clear, concise briefings and advice tailored to diverse, sometimes to senior audiences, with strategic recommendations that shape policy outcomes.
* Engages stakeholders effectively, providing evidence-based rationale for policy choices, and collaborating to resolve blockers and achieve timely outcomes.
* Makes balanced decisions, weighing risks and opportunities without resorting to alarmism or assumptions.
* Distils complex technical issues into plain English, occasionally under tight deadlines. Clearly framing implications for senior decision makers
* Maintains a customer-focused approach, delivering on expectations and helping the business to build trust. Strengthening CND governance credibility throughout National Grid and beyond.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £48,000 – £57,000 dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
